Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

Complex regional pain syndrome (also known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) is pain that may occur after an injury to an arm or a leg. In some cases, the syndrome develops after surgery, a heart attack, a stroke or other medical problem. One of the non-drug treatment options is administered by the Walton Pain Center and is called a sympathetic block, which is an injection of an anesthetic (pain reliever) into certain nerves to block the pain signals. If it works, it may be repeated. Outpatient Orthopedic Rehabilitation Program, as well as Rehab Plus Exercise Program may also be helpful. However, a treatment that works for one person may not work for another, thus an individual treatment plan must be made for each person.
