Brain Injury

Three million people in the United States will sustain brain injuries this year, with 500,000 of these injuries requiring hospitalization. For those survivors of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), the process of regaining lost abilities is about to begin. Since the most rapid improvement is seen within the first year after an injury, the decision of where to seek rehabilitation is crucial. The Brain Injury Team at Walton Rehabilitation Hospital offers a fully accredited treatment program that specializes in helping people with TBIs to begin this recovery process and to reach their fullest potential.

Walton's Brain Injury Team works to educate the client and family about what is happening to the client and help to make them an integral part of the healing process. A client's rehabilitation program may consist of:
• Physician services
• Physical, occupational and speech therapy
• Neuropsychology
• Psychology
• Behavior analysis
• Rehabilitation nursing
• Case management
• Support group
• Dietician
• Chaplain
• Sports and leisure
• Vital Stim program

Once clients are discharged, they may continue with their therapy program on an outpatient basis. Outpatient services include:
• Physician services
• Physical, occupational and speech therapy
• Psychology
• Driver's education
• Support group
• Aquatics
• Vestibular rehabilitation
